Near in the magazine serialization vs Near in the finalized published Volume 8

There have been a variety of such complaints added to this post, about Near losing his smile and becoming less expressive and I feel like I need to clarify.
These are the only panels that got changed. Obviously it impacts Near’s characterization to make him less creepy / casual / malicious in his first interactions with the new L… BUT.Near is still expressive. And more importantly…
Near still smiles a lot. This is only a selection, there are way more panels.
The published volumes toned him down, but in no version of the series is Near ever expressionless or unsmiling. The fact that he’s constantly seen and described as such (despite imo being more expressive than L) is baffling.
